Elephants are herbivorous (vegetarian). On a daily basis their diet consist of 150-250 pounds of hay along with additional grains, fruits, and vegetables. So of course they love to eat peanuts. With all that food they also drink 30-50 gallons of water per day.,

The ad below showing the adult elephant performing a choking rescue procedure (also known as Heimlich manoevere) on the young elephant choking on a large peanut is quite cute.
